Attacks:

Countdown’s basic primary attack is a bombing attack where he throws his own head at the enemies. It’s an interesting attack for sure. Countdown has upgrades like all Skylanders. Controlled Burst lets you shoot rockets in a second attack. Roaring Rockets is an upgrade that makes Controlled Burst more powerful. Explosive Friends is my favorite upgrade for Countdown. It allows you to create "bomb buddies" as an extra attack. These bomb buddies will seek out enemies and explode on them, damaging them. The last upgrade before choosing a path is Hefty Concussion. Hefty Concussion makes your primary attack more powerful. It also lets you press the button a second time to explode the head on demand. There is also the Soul Gem upgrade after the paths. Countdown’s soul gem ability is called Self Destruct. To activate it after you have found the soul gem and purchased the upgrade, simply hold down the primary attack button and you will damage any enemies near you when you explode.

Countdown has two upgrade paths. The first makes your bomb buddies more powerful and the second makes your rockets more powerful. Which one you choose is up to you. Personally, I like the bomb buddies just because they are so cute. For the first upgrade path, Boom Buddies will let you summon up to 4 bomb buddies at once. Bombing Blitzers makes the buddies more powerful, and Lingering Sparks makes them spark flames as well. On the second upgrade path, Triple Threat lets you charge your rockets by holding down your secondary attack button. When you release it, you will have one big and then two small rockets attack your enemies. Warhead Hands makes all of your rockets more powerful. Finally Mega Mortar makes your secondary attack more powerful.

Comments:

Countdown is a ranged character since all of his attacks are projectiles. If you get surrounded, his Soul Gem ability is quite useful, but it might take you a while to save up to buy it. Luckily, you will find Countdown’s Soul Gem on the second board (Cascade Glade) so you get it pretty early on. It’s not a difficult one to find.

I wasn’t thrilled with Countdown when I first started playing with him, but after a bit of time (and unlocking bomb buddies) I found that I really liked him. He’s one of the ones I go to now, especially for ranged attacks.
