'PlayStation 2...'
EVERYONE is talking about it, and if they aren’t, they must have been living like a hermit for the past 3 months. During the summer, it’s almost all I heard about - around the Internet chat rooms, on the streets, everywhere I go it seems someone is talking about it. You can’t go into a video game store and not see some kind of advertisement for it. Everyone in the gaming world is awaiting its release on Thursday, October 26, 2000. Some are camping out at the stores, praying that they can possibly get a PS2 before they are all sold out. Good luck to those people, because from what I have heard, it has been sold out for the past month or more. Reminds me a little of the release of the Sega Dreamcast. But will the PS2 be like the Dreamcast? Will all the hype amount to some sub-par system that you could have waited to buy until all the bugs were worked out? I guess we will just have to wait a month or so and see how things turn out. For me, I was one of those people who made the mistake of not pre-ordering the system, not that it would guarantee me a system anyway, but at least I would stand a chance. After all, when I heard that it had a 24 speed CD-Rom/DVD player, my mouth watered.
How many game systems have you ever heard that could not only play music CDs, but DVD movies as well? Yea, that’s what I thought, none. But the PlayStation 2 is here to satisfy our hunger for a cheap all-in-one system. Go to an electronics store sometime and price a good DVD-player. They cost anywhere from $200 to $400 or more. For that price, I could go get a PS2 that plays not only DVDs, but music CDs, old PlayStation games, as well as the new PlayStation 2 games. Do you know how long everyone has waited for this system?? For myself, I’ve waited since I heard that the CD-ROM drive was going to be faster, which was what now, a year and a half ago? This console has been in the making for quite some time, and obviously as time passed, they have added more and more great features to it.
All in all, it looks like the PlayStation 2 is the game system to beat right now. It will instantly be the hottest console on the market until another system, bigger and more powerful, comes along. But that is what we have come to expect out of the gaming industry as consumers these days. If it isn’t better, why waste our time with it? For all you PlayStation fans, get ready to have a blast!
