Here they come again! Time Life presents Hee Haw: Salute! Collector's Edition with Kornfield County's whole gang featuring Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Tammy Wynette and Conway Twitty, with co-hosts Buck Owens and Roy Clark. This zany show premiered in the late 1960's as Hee Haw and ran for two years on CBS. It was then picked-up in syndication, airing until 1992. Apparently, America had fallen in love with Kornfield County and all its down-home hardworking people.

Hee Haw: Salute! Collector's Edition contains three show-stopping disks each with six episodes of countrified entertainment. Top stars will sing some of your favorites like "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" by Freddy Fender; "Delta Dawn" by Tanya Tucker; Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty performing "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man;" and George Jones and Tammy Wynette singing "We Loved It Away." And, before you can get up to get more popcorn, you'll be glued to your seat when that man dressed in black, Johnny Cash, sings "I Walk the Line."

Of course, the regulars will all be singing and dancing and cutting up in the "korn" fields as usual. Multi-talented Roy Clark will be fiddling on his banjo, strumming his guitar, and singing great songs like "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song," "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You," "San Antonio Rose," and the Nashville Edition "Tumbling Tumbleweed." Then Buck Owens will chime in with "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It," "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)", "A Different Kind of Sad," with Buddy Alan performing "White Lightnin'."

That's just a sampling of the musical performances you'll see. Besides the other numbers, you'll hear George Lindsey with the "Unluckiest Songwriter in Nashville," David Houston performing "The Lady of the Night," Kitty Wells singing "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," Melba Montgomery with "Don't Let the Good Times Fool You," Mickey Gilley performing "I Overlooked an Orchid," Freddy Weller with "Put Your Heart Into It," and Jackie Phelps with "Kentucky Rag." And, you'll hear The Hager Boys with "Listen to a Country Song," and Grandpa Jones and Ramona Jones with "Merrily Medley."

Since Hee Haw was fashioned after the popular 1960's TV show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, you'll see the Kornfield's rendition of knee-slapping zingers and one-liner rural comedy. You'll meet the regulars like Grandpa Jones, Minnie Pearl, Archie Campbell, Gordie Tapp, George Lindsey, Lulu Roman, the Hee Haw Honeys, and Beauregard the lazy dog.

Hee Haw was a television show that filled the living rooms of American viewers for 25 years. It was an expression of purity in a simpler time. A walk down Memory Lane can be one of the best ways to clear your mind and evaluate things with a fresh perspective. Hee Haw: Salute! Collector's Edition is wholesome comedic and musical family entertainment that's packed with laughter and joy. These are old recordings, so some audio or visual presentations may not be as crisp as newer material or may contain old audio/video artifacts, but in my opinion, the show's content far outweighs these small imperfections. Although Hee Haw's jokes may seem a little "korny," it's still a worthy addition to your DVD library, especially for it's historical value.
