LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Gotham City Breakout shows just what happens when Batman decides to go on vacation. At least it does in the light-hearted comedic, slapstick manner that the LEGO games and movies are known for.

After a night of crime fighting, Batman (Troy Baker, a regular voice actor for the Caped Crusader) finds himself in a surprise party (one he completely predicted, of course) celebrating the first appearance of Batman in Gotham many years ago. Luring him into the party are Nightwing (Will Friedle, Boy Meets World, Kim Possible, Batman Beyond), Robin (Scott Menville, who played Robin in Teen Titans) and Batgirl (Sarah Hyland, Modern Family), but they aren't the only ones in attendance.

Celebrating with the Bat-family are Superman (Nolan North), Wonder Woman (Grey Griffin) and several members of the Teen Titans (many voiced by the same actors from the animated series): Starfire (Hynden Walch), Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) and Cyborg (Khary Payton). While Raven is missing from the group, Tara Strong is in the movie, voicing Harley Quinn, a role she has taken on many times.

When Batman's friends can't decide what to get the man who has, or can buy, anything, they decide to give him a vacation. Superman promises to look after Gotham while Batman, Batgirl, and Nightwing leave the city for a few days. Of course, since it's a school night, both Batman and Superman insist that Robin stays in Gotham.

When Batman, Batgirl, and Nightwing get to their destination, an island that a young Bruce Wayne trained on, they find that something is amiss. At first, it looks like Batman's old teacher, Madame Mantis (Amy Hill) is the same determined and tough teacher that Batman knew, but he quickly realizes that she isn't the real Madame Mantis. The trio of heroes follow the impersonator into a cave and discover a secret that Madame Mantis has been protecting for many years. Unfortunately, that secret is about to be exposed as the heroes discover both Deathstroke (John DiMaggio, Adventure Time, Futurama) and Bane (Eric Bauza) working together to exploit the resources Madame Mantis has been hiding.

Meanwhile, back in Gotham, The Joker (Jason Spisak) has escaped from Arkham and he tricks an overconfident Superman into breaking many villains out of Arkham thanks to Superman's heat vision and the very spoon Joker used to dig his way out. With the likes of Poison Ivy (Vanessa Marshall), Penguin (Tom Kenny, SpongeBob SquarePants) and Harley Quinn backing The Joker, Superman decides that he might need some help after all. He calls on the rest of the heroes in order to put Gotham back the way Batman left it before the Dark Knight returns, but it seems the devious and tricky ways of Batman's enemies could be too much even for the Teen Titans, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Thankfully, Robin knows the best way to take down Gotham's most fearsome foes.

The LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes movies are always a lot of fun. Each character's personality traits are taken to absurd extremes and it just fits really well with the style of the movies. Superman is overly goody-two-shoes, while Batman is portrayed in a manner very similar to Adam West's version from the classic TV series. Best of all, the movie doesn't try to hide these details either. In fact, before Gotham City Breakout is over, it will even pull out the old Batusi.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Gotham City Breakout is just an all around fun experience that DC and LEGO fans alike will enjoy.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray. The opinions I share are my own.
