I am going to assume if you are reading this review then you’ve caught up on The Vampire Diaries previous seasons. If so, then you’ll definitely remember that at the end of Season Five after saving everyone from the other side, including Alaric (Matthew Davis), who is still a vampire, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) were left stuck on the other side. Thankfully, that was not the end of them.

The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Sixth Season opens about 4 months after the end of Season Five. Everyone is dealing with the loss differently. Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is acting out, sleeping around, and pretending that he’s not hurt and everything is fine. Elena (Nina Dobrev) is even worse in a way. She has been taking herbs all summer to hallucinate Damon, unbeknownst to her friends. The herb makes her crave blood and extremely reckless. The people of Mystic Falls are safe though. The barrier from the travelers is still there, so no one supernatural can cross it. Tyler (Michael Trevino) can still live there as he is human, but he’s still a cursed werewolf. If he kills anyone again, even on accident, he will turn back into the werewolf. For most people, that wouldn’t be a problem at all. I mean, how many of us worry that we might accidentally kill someone. For those living in Mystic Falls (or the surrounding areas), that’s a common worry. Alaric (Matthew Davis) AKA Ric is back from the dead, which is a good thing. I like him. Enzo (Michael Malarkey) is still here, which is both good and bad. I like that he acts more like a real vampire and doesn’t have as much of the humanity that the rest do, but he’s quite unpredictable. At least he’s ultra-loyal. Stefan (Paul Wesley) has given up on bringing Damon and Bonnie back and he’s just going to move on. Of course, Caroline (Candice Accola) isn’t going to let that happen. I love Caroline. She’s the force that really wants to keep the gang together. We also can’t forget Matt (Zach Roerig), who goes through a lot this season. He’s the one guy who’s always been human, which can be really tough living in Mystic Falls. He needs to figure out what to do with his life.

That’s just your old characters. You might also remember the twins, Liv (Penelope Mitchell) and Luke (Chris Brochu). They’re still at the college. Their coven, the Gemini Coven, is going to play a big role in a lot of this season, so get ready to see a lot more of them. There’s also a new doctor in town, Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe). Jo provides the perfect love interest for Ric, who really deserves something good in his life. Stefan and Caroline are another interesting combination this season. I really love the episodes with evil Caroline and evil Stefan together. That is a truly scary couple!

No, I haven’t forgotten Damon and Bonnie. They are not dead. Instead, they are stuck in a hell realm where they are repeating the same day in 1994 over and over and over again, except they’re the only ones on the planet, other than a psychopath name Kai (Chris Wood). They’re going to have to find a way out of there, but remember that cure for vampirism? Well, it still exists in 1994, where Bonnie and Damon are stuck. I’m just going to leave that bit of information there to get you thinking. Season Six has a lot of decisions to make and really a lot of changes to the show. More than one long lost Salvatore family member will show up. Considering I thought Stefan and Damon were the last, that’s a true feat. Elena is going to have to make a huge decision, once again. It seems like she’s always having to make these decisions. We are also reminded that sometimes normal humans die of normal human things in Mystic Falls. When one does, the whole group will feel the effects.

There are four people leaving the show this season. The special feature "Good Bite and Good Luck" is a farewell to four of the actors that are leaving the show. Not all were killed in the series though, so you never know who will come back in The Vampire Diaries. There are a few more Special features available on the Blu-ray set. "Best. Reactions. Ever." was amusing to see, simply because the actors of the show are reading the fans tweets. There are deleted scenes. The last one gives us a bit more closure on where two of the characters are going off to, which is nice since it looks like they aren’t coming back. The Comic-Con Panel is always fun to watch as you get to see the actors and how they behave in real life. The fact that the series is available on Blu-ray is always nice. The quality is simply amazing and the sound is superb.

I will admit that Season Six is definitely not my favorite season of the show. The middle part of it felt a bit rushed and the whole season they kept killing off recurring characters, leaving you wondering which characters you could start to care about and how long they might last. However, the last few episodes almost made up for it. While I hate how many people were killed off over the season, I have to admit, they come up with a very creative way to kill off a major character in the season finale without really killing them permanently. It was a great way to let them leave the show without ruining the characters. Plus, I really want to know what was up with the final scene of the season. It looks like hell rained down on Mystic Falls in the near future. I guess we’ll just have to wait on the season premiere to find out! If you’re a fan of the series, you’re going to want to pick up The Vampire Diaries: Season Six as soon as you can so that you can relive it all before Season Seven starts!
