Paranoia is a film about a young tech upstart who finds himself entangled in a dangerous power play between two industry giants dead-set on destroying one another. Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth, The Hunger Games) is a bright star at a technology company owned by the opinionated and arrogant Nicolas Wyatt (Gary Oldham). When Adam and his team make their new tech product pitch to Wyatt and Adam is a bit insulting to him, everyone on the team gets fired. Adam makes the unfortunate choice to go out partying on his corporate credit card with his now unemployed team, running up a huge bill and placing him in Wyatt’s crosshairs, but Wyatt has much bigger plans for Adam. When Wyatt confronts Adam, he offers him absolution in the form of corporate espionage. Wyatt and his compadres will groom Adam to be a power player so that he will be snapped up by Eikon Industries, owned by Wyatt’s former mentor and now sworn enemy, Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford). Adam will finally get a chance to see what it is like to live like "the other side," but he must steal the latest product Goddard is working on in order to satisfy Wyatt. While Adam is lured by the possibility of power and fortune, he also agrees because of his sick father, Frank (Richard Dreyfuss) and the mounting bills that come with caring for him.

Adam is also shocked to discover that Emma Jennings (Amber Heard), a one night stand from his wild night at the club, is the Marketing Director for Wyatt, so that also sweetens the pot as she now sees him differently and not the "bridge and tunnel" type she only likes when she gets drunk. Before long, Adam is living the high life, but not without heavy pressure from Wyatt and his "enforcer" Miles Meechum (Julian McMahon) who want him to ramp up his acquisition of Goddard’s latest technology breakthrough. Soon, Adam is approached by FBI Agent Gamble (Josh Holloway, Lost) who informs him that all of Wyatt’s previous spies ended up in unfortunate but deadly accidents. Adam is more than caught between a rock and a hard place, especially when Wyatt begins threatening the lives of his family and friends and Adam discovers his every move is being watched and used against him. He is caught in a situation where there is no right move and the people he loves will die if he doesn’t come through with what he promised to Wyatt, but crossing someone as powerful as Goddard also has ramifications. Can he escape the clutches of both of these power-driven billionaires before it is too late?

I enjoyed Paranoia and it had a fast pace to it, while still slowly building the romance between Adam and Emma. Gary Oldham always does maniacal really well, but he was especially disturbing in his role as Wyatt. I am not a fan of Harrison Ford rocking the shaved head, but still love him and he was a great Jock Goddard. Liam Hemsworth is adorable and we all know that, but he was believable in his role as Adam, even if there were a few unbelievable things that happened in the movie. A tech company would have immediately cut off his corporate credit card access, so that was a little silly. Still, Paranoia is a fun thriller with good actors. Amber Heard has good chemistry with Hemsworth and I also liked the rest of Adam’s nerd herd and the actors who portrayed them. They didn’t get nearly as much screen time as he did, but they were a good group of characters.

The film looks superb on Blu-ray and comes packaged with a small selection of special features, but ones that are enjoyable to watch. There are a handful of deleted scenes, a featurette on the current state of privacy (or the lack thereof) in the world today, plus featurettes on how the Joseph Finder book was translated to the big screen and one on the cast as well. It also comes with a DVD and digital copy of the film as well. Overall, Paranoia is a fun popcorn movie where you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
