CodeBreaker
Score: 95%
Developer: Pelican

Function:

Pelican's CodeBreaker will help to make your game easier or more difficult. It can add eternal life, weapons, secret items, etc. If you find the game too easy though, it can take items away, give you wisps of life on down to things that make the game insanely hard. I guess some people love inflicting game punishment on themselves.

Performance:

Well if you could decipher the poorly written manual, you could find out what the controls are. For those ready to cheat, alas, some trial and error will be in order. It takes a while to figure out what to do, but fortunately the screen has a visible little 'help menu' if you will. Trust me, for prunes like myself, I'm still getting my money's worth on this help menu. Probably the most difficult thing is to figure out to press 'Right' on the D-pad to select games available codes, and then 'Right' again to edit any individual codes, or add new ones. After you get the hang of it though, it becomes very easy. It's a trial by fire...except without any fire. Maybe fire comes with a more deluxe model.

To be frank, it took a dolt like me about 20 minutes to figure out what to do. After you select the cheats, you push 'Start' so it will save any changes. Then, you go back to the Main Menu, and if you select 'Start Game,' CodeBreaker will ask you to insert game disc. So, I put the game in, (mind you there's NO section in the manual on this, thus almost infuriating me to summon Elementals and destroy my nearest Shell station - expensive gas prices) and waited for it to say 'Could not load!' It would then freeze up. Had this trend continued, CodeBreaker 's review score would be hellacious! What I figured out was that you have to put the game in before you're actually prompted to put the game in, and then select 'Start Game' from the Main Menu, and then 'okay' when it prompts you to load disc. Trivial at best, but it got the job done. As far as getting codes for games, that is super easy. This Site has all the codes you'll ever want, and every code I tried worked. Adding a game and code is equally easy, and the fact that it comes preloaded with oodles and noodles of games is only a plus. I believe it's a lot easier than the card driven game enhancers.

Riot Rundown: I love the CodeBreaker . If the controls wouldn't have been so funny, and the manual so brief, it would've gotten a perfect score. Alas, what score it did get, it earned. It's a wonderful thing to enhance your game, or get you past the toughest spots. I also loved that every game I looked up seemed to have a pertinent code to what I was looking for to customize my game. All in all, a good bargain.
