Standard Controller
Score: 90%
Developer: Mad Catz
Device Type: Controller

Function:

Once upon a time, there was a very simple controller for the PSX. Then, everything went analog and Dual Shock... which is great for some games, but for some sports, puzzle, and strategy titles, these extra features just get in the way. Now, Mad Catz offers the Standard Controller; almost identical in appearance to the Original Sony controller. The main difference is that the Mad Catz Standard Controller has ergonomic finger grips added in the handles, making it feel better in the hands than the Original PSX controller.

Performance:

There?s nothing to learn. It?s the basics all over again. Only now, it?s more comfortable. Anyone who?s played PlayStation should easily pick this controller up and play. There are no settings, no features to turn on or off... just grab and go. Those out there who didn?t get turned on to PlayStation until the Dual Shock controllers were standard may find it to be lacking in features and somewhat plain, but for some types of games, the features it doesn?t have are the ones you don?t need.

The Mad Catz Standard Controller is a pleasure to hold. Being a standard controller (sans motors and extra chips and/or circuits), the Standard Controller is lightweight. Factor in the ergonomic grips in the handles of the Standard Controller and you have a controller that is perfect for hours of continued use without fatigue. Sometimes bells and whistles just aren?t needed.

Features:
  • Standard gray color
  • Eight-way floating D-pad
  • Custom finger grips for maximum comfort
  • 6?7? cord

Drawbacks & Problems::

This controller is not for gamers who want bells and whistles. However, if you?re looking for a solid controller to play sports games, strategy games, or puzzle games with, then the Mad Catz Standard Controller should have you covered.
