Introduction:
Greetings, true believers, and prepare yourself for five fantastic figures ripped straight from the Marvel Multiverse, Sackboy-i-tized and made available for use in Little Big Planet.

These costumes are fun for using in normal gameplay, but can help set the mood in the Marvel Level Pack, if you purchase that separately. Then again, you could make your own Marvel-ous Comic-Styled Action-packed levels and they could, now, feature (your Sackboy as) a few favorites from Marvel.

Included Costumes:
Okay, so let's say you have to choose a mere five costumes from the entire library of Marvel characters. Only five. How do you do it? How can you choose characters that will appeal to the greatest number of gamers? Some comic collectors (such as myself or, say, Tommy Tallarico) might be huge fans of Spider-Man, but, perhaps, not all that into the Fantastic Four. Others may collect X-Men or Punisher, but think Iron-Man is lame... and that's the comic book fans, not to mention the countless gamers out there who don't know Marvel from DC or who know comic book characters only from movies, toys and videogames. It appears that the selection for this pack of costumes was driven by movie appearances, as all of the characters depicted by these costumes have been on the silver screen, whether in a Spider-Man movie, a Daredevil movie, an X-Man movie, Fantastic Four movies or Iron-Man movies.

I suppose the most "Fantastic" costume in the bunch (as in "Fantastic Four") would have to be the Thing, complete with his blue Fantastic 4 Speedo and huge, orange, rocky unibrow. You also get an utterly cute (if somewhat bobble-head looking) Iron-Man and Hell's Kitchen's own Daredevil. That completes the good-guys roster in this pack. You also get the insidious Doctor Octopus and the mysterious Mystique, if you're not the do-gooder type.

While these five costumes are available in "My Costumes" to select and play with, these costumes are composed of individual pieces, which are all available to you separately, as well. For example, if you are a fan of Reed Richards, you could, perhaps, use Thing's Legs (with the Fantastic 4 Pants) as part of a costume to make your Sackboy up like him. You could also use Daredevil's horns to make yourself a devil costume, or perhaps Daredevil's hands (which include a nunchuck) as part of a ninja costume. Since you can feel free to pick and choose as you please, it's not just five specific costumes, but an additional 30 costume pieces to play around with.

The Verdict:
I don't know how they manage to do it, but the folks at Media Molecule seem to have a knack for making utterly cute versions of things. The Marvel character costumes included in this pack are all recognizable and all cute as a button. I think it would be unthinkable not to have Spider-Man as a costume and I would have included him in this pack, if I was the one making that decision. However, Spider-Man is available in Marvel Costume Pack #2, so I won't hold that against Pack #1.

If you're a Marvel fan and you want three or more of the costumes in the Marvel Costume Pack #1, then it's a good deal, at $5.99 USD. If, however, you only want one (or two) of them, you can also purchase them separately for $1.99 USD each.
