The RCDC has several running gags, like Bane constantly sneaking up on Batman and breaking the Dark Knight’s back or a session called "Real Characters from the DC Universe" which goes over some of the comics’ more unbelievable creations like Mr. Banjo. Of course, there are a lot of one-offs. As you would expect from a Robot Chicken episode, there is also one main story that is constantly interrupted by these various skits. In the case of the DC Special, the story is about Aquaman finally getting fed up of constantly being made fun of by the other Super Friends.
Between jokes about not being able to fly, jokes about his fishy friends and not being taken on missions, even if they involve bases hidden in the watery depths, Aquaman decides that he is no longer a hero and defects to the Legion of Doom. Hilarity follows.
While the main feature is only a half-hour long, the specials on the Blu-ray are jam-packed; not only does it come with voice actor outtakes and animatics of deleted scenes, but there is also a pair of commentaries and a featurette about the Robot Chicken guys taking a tour of the DC headquarters. Rounding off the list of extras includes a making-of that dives into pretty much every aspect of the episode, a discussion about developing the Aquaman storyline and even some behind-the-scenes footage as the show’s cast and crew dress up like DC characters and have a party.
While there are a lot of extras accompanying the RCDC episode, it is just one episode. Even a strong follower of Robot Chicken should balk at the idea of paying more than a few dollars for just a single episode. I would recommend either renting the Blu-ray, or waiting to see if it shows up in the full-season release.
