BLEEM FOR DREAMCAST DELIVERS 400 NEW TITLES TO SEGA DREAMCAST GAMERS

bleem! revealed bleem! for Dreamcast at E3 this year. bleem! for Dreamcast will actually take the form of four seperate programs, or 'bleempacks', each of which allowing 100 games each from the PlayStation games catalog to be played on a SEGA Dreamcast with Dreamcast - enhanced graphics resolution and effects. Each bleem! for Dreamcast pak will feature a mix of the top-performing games from multiple genres, including adventure, sports, RPGs, strategy and other categories. Specific game lists for the individual packs are to be announced in early June, with the first bleem! for Dreamcast paks slated for release this summer. bleem! is taargeting a wide range of videogame consumers by offering bleem! for Dreamcast at just $19.99 USD. The idea is to allow Dreamcast gamers to pick up a copy of (the appropriate) bleem! for Dreamcast and an older PlayStation title for the same price as a newer title.

This editor has seen the bleem! for Dreamcast in action, and I must say, the example I saw did indeed have enhanced graphics. This product will enable Dreamcast owners to play some of Sony's own best-sellers, which wre previously unavailable for any other console. And, with the Dreamcast being reduced to $149.00 (and an available $200.00 rebate through sega.net) That leaves new owners who subscribe with $50 to play with and previous owners who subscribe with $200. With that much money in their hands, picking up a copy of bleem! for Dreamcast may be a no-brainer. However, I have to wonder about licensing problems this may cause. With many game sequels merely enhancing the graphics of the last game (for the most part), and games which were previously console specific being licensed to multiple platforms (Who ever expected to see Lara Croft on the Dreamcast? ...and the GAMEBOY??!), giving Dreamcast owners access to PlayStation titles may step on some companies toes. And, while it could easily sell more Dreamcast units, it may inhibit Dreamcast software sells by giving the Dreamcast gamers access to 'cheaper alternatives' to buying SEGA software. Time will tell, and in the meantime, I'm saving towards my $19.99...
