Not Secret Anymore

Flight sim fans rejoice, Lawrence Holland is back in the race with another highflying shooter, this time for the PS2, Xbox, and the PC. Secret Weapons Over Normandy is the latest installment in the Secret Weapons series, this time spanning a period of four years and follows a series of realistic events, starting with the evacuation of Dunkirk.

Though SWON is a pure WWII flight sim, the action is going to be tied to a dramatic storyline much like the X-Wing series was, with interesting characters, immersive combat, and cool and unique aircraft. And though there will be many unique vehicles the player can fly, there will still be old time favorites from the Allied, German, and Japanese airforces. The P-38 Lightning, the ME 163 Komet rocket plane, and also a position in the ball turret of a B-17 are all going to be available to the player.

Rounding out the cool factor of Secret Weapons Over Normandy are the sounds. Will Lyman, best known for his narration for the PBS series Frontline, and Japanese star Mako, are going to be lending their voice talents to this game. Nothing was spared with the sound effects either, as they are being taken straight out of WWII audio archives, giving the game a very authentic touch.

So until this winter, all we can do is hope the developers finish the game early enough to put some really cool unlockables in, like, say, an X-Wing. One thing is for sure, though, and that is that this game is going to be something to contend with in the flight-sim genre over the holidays.
