Like Kurosawa, I Make Mad Games...

DATE: 2003-05-26 12:40:53

Akira Kurosawa's epic classic action film, The Seven Samurai, is in the process of being lovingly translated to a videogame for the PlayStation 2. Sammy Studios has teamed up development studio Dimps and Kurosawa Production to bring this timeless masterpiece to gamers everywhere.

Hisao Kurosawa, Akira's son and the president of Kurosawa Production, was on hand to unveil the title at Sammy's press conference at E3. Hisao has been fully involved in the production of the action-based fighting game dubbed Seven Samurai 20XX to insure that it stays true to his father's vision. Also enlisted to help with the project are Moebius, the famed French comic artist and designer responsible for such wacky character designs as those found in Fifth Element, Willow and Tron, along with Ryuichi Sakamoto, music composer best known for his Academy Award winning soundtrack for the film The Last Emperor.

If that isn't enough to tantalize all of your senses, what's wrong with you? But seriously, I got some hands on time with Seven Samurai 20XX at E3 and the game is a blast. The melee-styled fighting action is fast and furious and the environments that I saw were absolutely beautiful. If you are a fan of Kurosawa's or martial arts action games, be on the lookout for Seven Samurai 20XX this Fall. If you aren't already, you might just become one.
