Who Said 6th Grade Would Be Easy?

DATE: 2003-05-22 10:52:26

When I think about it - sixth grade was hard. Long division, book reports, having to name all fifty states and their capitals! Of course, I didn't have it nearly as bad as some people. For example, check out the sixth graders in DemiKids, Jin and Akira - in addition to all that other stuff they also have to battle demons and save the world. An offshoot of the insanely popular Shin Megami Tensei series (well, insanely popular in Japan), DemiKids is a trading card based RPG for the GameBoy Advance from Atlus.

In the year 200X, the main characters Jin, Akira and Lena are a group of life-long friends who also happen to be members of the 'Mystery Club', which is a group that searches for interesting and mysterious things. One day, while snooping through the school's library, the trio finds a mysterious book containing various spells and incantations. Curiosity gets the best of them, and they decide to try a summoning ritual from the book. To their surprise, the ritual works and an evil demon appears, which also opens the doors for other demons. At the same time, a peculiar new student named Amy appears and gives Jin and Akira the gun-like weapon called the Demolyzer, which gives them the ability to capture and summon demons. They are also joined by Rand and Gale, two guardian demons sent to help the boys.

As if things couldn't possibly get any worse, a rift has occurred outside of the school, disrupting the flow of time. Each time someone tries to leave the school, time reverts back to when school was dismissed. However, the only people who are aware of this phenomenon are Jin, Amy, Akira and Lena. Now, trapped in an unending time loop, the main characters set out on a quest to not only save their world, but also save Valhalla - Amy's home dimension. After stepping through the 'Door of Time' to the world of Valhalla, Jin and Akira team up with the Demikids of Valhalla to battle the forces of evil.

Demikids will feature two versions, Light and Dark, which will feature the same story, but follow two different characters. Each will also follow their own path, leading up to the final battle with the Emperor's army. The Light Version will feature Jin as he goes to Valhalla and joins the rebellion. The Dark Version will feature Akira, who will take a quick stop in the Demon World before entering Valhalla. There he will meet Mephius, the king of all demons and learn about the time distortion in his own world. Eventually the two will meet up, but both versions will feature significant differences in the events leading up to the final battle. Each game will also use its own unique fusion system, known as either Relic or Skill Fusions. The Dark Version will allow player to increase the parameters of all party members, while the Light Version will only allow you to increase the abilities of your partner demon. Each version will have over 350 demons for each character to collect, some of which will be unique to each version. Players will also be able to use the Demon Fusion System to create hundreds of new demons or enhance existing demons.

Poke'-crazed fans, or those who just like games where you collect things should keep an eye on DemiKids: Light and Dark Versions.
