OPERATION:

A Nice Little Gathering

Gathering of Developers, the production company made for developers, by developers, is strutting its stuff again this year with some old and new titles that look destined to please. First on the sequels list is Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic. The successor to the acclaimed fantasy/strategy title has 3 new races and over 40 new units packed into it. Another hit follow up is Hidden and Dangerous 2, a WWII First Person Shooter that lets you look through the eyes of the Special Air Service. Covering European, Asian, and African countries, this sequel should be every bit as exciting as the first.

Another follow up, Railroad Tycoon 3, looks well on its way to dominating the Train Sim niche of the market. This fully 3D game will allow you to hover high over continents to view your entire railroad network, and then allow you to zoom right down to the nails holding the tracks together.

Gathering is also working on a PS2 and Xbox port of Mafia, the popular PC gangster game that idolized the high crime of the early 20th century. This console version is promised to be every bit as vicious as was the PC version, and we have no reason to believe otherwise.

A completely new game is in the lineup this E3, and is being developed by Firefly Studios, the people who brought you Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader. Their new title, Space Colony, can only be described as a people sim mets a city builder set in the grungiest corners of the galaxy and populated by a handful of the most socially inept people in space. The comic wit is as sharp as the graphics, and the gameplay looks nothing less than addictive.
