DATE: 2003-04-29 20:45:46

The Sci-Fi spoof cartoon series made by Simpsons creator Matt Groening, is about to hit the gaming market. This August, VU Games is planning on releasing a Third Person Shooter based on Futurama, where you will take on the roles of Fry, Leela, Bender and Dr. Zoidberg as you try to stop the multibillionaire Mom from taking over the world.

For years now, the hit TV show has been on Fox and Cartoon Network?s Adult Swim. Futurama follows a 20th century pizza delivery man, Fry, as he is inadvertently frozen for a thousand years. He wakes up in a new world where there are robots, aliens and even... gasp, amusement parks on the moon. He quickly befriends a robot named Bender and a cyclops named Leela and all three of them take on jobs at Fry?s great great great great great ... great nephew?s interstellar delivery business, Planet Express.

Futurama the game will include all of your favorite characters from the show like Professor Farnsworth and Zap Brannigan, and will come out for the PlayStation 2, and the Xbox. Futurama is being developed by Unique Development Studios (UDS), and will include 25 levels with five new environments, enough cinematics to equal two episodes of the show, and will utilize a custom-made renderer to get the look and feel of the cartoon just right.

The storyline for the Futurama game was written by J. Stewart Burns, who won an Emmy for the episode titled ?Roswell That Ends Well?. The game?s story starts off with the Professor selling Planet Express to Mom, and allowing her to own more than fifty percent of the Earth. It is your duty to take control of Fry, Leela, Bender and Dr. Zoidberg and go back in time to stop the deal from being made.

Several of the scenes in Futurama will be very familiar to veterans of the show. The game will include New New York, Planet Express and the Red Light District as well as several new locations.

Futurama is scheculed to be released in August of this year, and should have a sales price of $49.95, with a Teen ESRB rating. If it will be anything like the show, this game will be a hit.
