Much to the surprise of well, everyone, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer proved to be a real sleeper hit last year. Combining an excellent fighting engine with the show's dark, yet nonchalant attitude, the game turned out to be a departure for the usual substandard level licensed games usually succumb to. This year, VU Games is hoping to recreate the 'suck'-cess of last year's Xbox game with Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds for the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube.

Based on the long running, highly rated UPN show of the same name, Chaos Bleeds brings players back to the quiet little town of Sunnydale, California. That is, if you call daily attacks from every demon and hellspawn known to man quiet. Like the game's prequel, Chaos Bleeds was developed by the show's writers as a lost episode, this time from the show's fifth season. As if Buffy and the Scooby Gang's hands weren't full enough with dealing with the Hellmouth (the dimensional rift under Sunnydale that acts as a 'revolving door' for demons), a dimensional bleed has been enabled by Pure Evil with the purpose of consuming humanity once and for all. A slayer's job is never done.

In addition to kicking vampire butt with Buffy, this time players will have the chance to play as other members of the Buffy crew including: Angel, Willow, Xander and Spike. Each character will have their own special abilities, as well as a coffin full of weapons including mystical daggers and battleaxes, as well as a few 'commoner' weapons like bats and Tasers. The game will also include extensive multiplayer modes such as One-on-One Combat, Team Survival, Last Man Standing, and Bunny Catcher. Throw in an excellent graphical engine, complete with fog, reflection and lighting effects, as well as vocal talent from the show's stars, and it looks like VU Games has a real 'slayer app' on its hands.

Look for Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds later this year.
